3.8. Escape PDF Print E-mail
Essential requirement:
All habitable multihull craft over 12 metres long shall be provided with viable means of escape in the event of inversion.

All habitable craft shall be provided with viable means of escape in the event of fire.

Harmonized standards:
EN ISO 9094-1:2003 Small craft - Fire protection - Part 1: Craft with a hull length of up to and including 15 m
EN ISO 9094-2:2002 Small craft - Fire protection - Part 2: Craft with a hull length of over 15m

Note 1) Only applicable for open accomodaton arrangements, where living or sleeping accomodation is not seperated from the nearest main exit by bulkheads or doors. For yacht with a length of hull > 15 mtr and enclosed accomodation arrangement reference to ISO 9094-2 is made.

Dimensions escape hatch
An escape hatch shall have the following minimum clear openings:
- if circular shape a diameter 450 mm;
- if any other shape a minimum dimension of 380 mm and minimum area of 0,18 m2. The escape hatch must be large enough for a 380 mm diameter circle.

Escape_hatch Exits shall be readily accessible and shall be capable of being opened from the inside and the outside when secured and unlocked.

Escape way step:
The step to the exit shall not exceed 1,2 m. Footholds, ladders, steps or other means shall be permenently fitted to the structure of the yacht.
